Our Prayers and God's Love

We have a marvelous friend that speaks and smiles sunshine at every encounter. We have a common friend and fellow parishioner who’s going through a really difficult time, but she had just the right, confident words: “Our prayers and God’s Love will see him through this dark time.” It’s the voice of experience, the voice of a certain hope, a sure faith. And it ministers to us as well as our church — indeed it’s what church is all about.

Our friend has never met a stranger. In our first conversation back when, it felt like we had known her our entire lives. Her interest in and encouragement of us and our children are such blessings. Yes, it’s about being church together, but it’s always just about life and just being real.

We can sit and listen to her stories and remembrances all day and all evening long. She reminds us of what matters, what’s important. She recalls a different era that recalls the life we remember of our parents and grandparents. (And don’t demote this notion to nostalgia — “progress” is not without its detriments.)

We love the beach, the mountains, silver, china, pasta salad and tea towels, teaching, our country and veterans, “Onward Christian Soldiers”, our dogs, babies and children and their clothes, pound and fruit cakes — the list goes on — and how grateful we are.

“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do” (1 Thess. 5:11).
